Event Photography at Mile High Station
The annual Martin Luther King Peace Breakfast takes place each year at Mile High Station in Denver, Colorado. It’s a beautiful event space with large windows, lots of natural light, and a spacious outdoor area.
I started the morning by walking around and capturing the details that stood out to me—elements of the decor that helped tell the story of the event. I always find it best to begin with detail shots early on, before guests arrive, while everything is still untouched and arranged just how the coordinator envisioned.
After finishing the detail shots, I moved on to candid photos of guests arriving—people seeing familiar faces, laughing, and hugging each other. Once everyone had arrived, breakfast was served and guests took their seats as the program began.
The event featured a variety of speakers, award recipients, live music, and even a panel discussion, including a keynote conversation with actress and writer Erika Alexander.
One of the things I love most about Mile High Station is that it has two levels. This is great for capturing different angles and gives you the chance to shoot from above for a bird’s-eye view. It also allows for wide shots that showcase the entire event in a single image. The chandeliers hanging from the ceiling add an extra touch of flair and elegance to the space.
